ABOUT ME

I'm Sarah, a Preston (Lancashire) born and bred Emerging Producer and Theatre Director.

I am primarily based in Liverpool, but happy to work all over!

I have recently just completed a year long directing attachment to the Old Vic Theatre via the Florence Kleiner Bursary, and was the Baylis Assistant Director on A Christmas Carol 2023.

My day job is working as a Production Manager and Production Coordinator in the Film and TV industry. My most recent credit was feature film The Choral as Production Manager (Directed by Nick Hytner, Written by Alan Bennett).

I love creating work that inspires and ignites, whether that be new writing, or a new adaptation of an old story. I have worked extensively on new writing and love collaborating with other creatives, whether this be in theatre in a directing capacity, or TV/Film in a Producing capacity.

I love creating work with imaginative and 'outside of the box' staging. I like to be daring with my creative choices and work with text and stories which challenge myself and the audience.

DIRECTING WORK

I have been directing for over 10 years, since graduating from university. My first directing job was for Theatre in the Rough on a project called Liverpool and the Titanic in 2012.

Since then, I have built up a range of experience, including projects for the Liverpool Irish Festival (Kitty and Committed), two shows as part of the Young Everyman Playhouse Director's Course (Chair by Edward Bond and Forever & Anon written by myself), The Road to Skibbereen for the Edinburgh Fringe, various shows at The Hope Street Theatre in Liverpool including The Nether and There's a Dead Body in my Baby's Sandpit and Witness for the Prosecution. I have also directed for the Unity Theatre (The Road to Skibbereen and Trolley Shaped Bruise), The Lantern Theatre in Liverpool (The Morning After, Committed and Pipedreams) and The Casa Theatre (Taking Care of Baby by Dennis Kelly). In 2015 I directed the tour of New Dawn Fades: A Play about Joy Division and Manchester which was performed at the Chester Forum, The Dancehouse Manchester, MADS Macclesfield, Bury Met and Leeds City Varieties.

Training

I have a degree in Drama from Liverpool John Moore's University, have trained on the Liverpool Everyman Playhouse Director's Course (other training includes the RTYDS 3 month placement and Young Vic Springboard Programme) and I have just finished my attachment to the Old Vic Theatre on the Florence Kleiner Bursary in October 2024.

Assistant Directing (Theatre)

I was recently the Baylis Assistant Director on A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic Theatre in London (Director Matthew Warchus). Other assisting credits include A Miracle of 34th Street at the Liverpool Everyman Playhouse (Director Gemma Bodinetz), Genesis Inc. at the Hampstead Theatre (Director Laurie Sansom) and The Odyssey: Missing Presumed Dead with Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse and English Touring Theatre through the RTYDS Scheme (Director Nick Bagnall).

Other Work (Film & TV)

I am also Artistic Director of Falling Doors Theatre (www.fallingdoorstheatre.co.uk) and also currently work as a Production Manager and Coordinator in Film & TV (have previously worked as Production Manager on The Choral (Sony Pictures), Production Coordinator on Peacock S2 (Big Talk Studios/BBC 3), Andy and the Band S3 & S4  (Ninja Pig/CBBC) and Juice S1 (Various Artists Limited/BBC 3). I am currently Junior Production Manager on a returning C4 series for Screendog Productions filming in Liverpool.

I have recently just produced my first short film, Hide by Ian Curtis. Hide has just won Best Short Film at the North East International Film Festival, and had it's premiere at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in August 2024.

I am looking for further directing, assisting and associate directing opportunities and looking for my next producing project.
